Major research interest relates to anti-microbial resistance with a particular focus on antimicrobial stewardship in primary health care, and behavioral interventions to reduce antibiotic misuse. He led a nationwide study that explored the sale of antibiotics without prescription in retail pharmacies. His other active projects are in the area of clinical epidemiology and gastroenterology, focusing on the long-term outcomes of inflammatory bowel diseases and pancreatic cancer.
