Brief Introduction to Professor Therese Hesketh’s Team

The Center for Global Health of Zhejiang University School of Medicine was established in June 2013. It focuses on important health issues in the global health field, actively explores Chinese-foreign medical exchanges and cooperation models, attaches importance to China-Africa medical cooperation, and conducts scientific research and academic communication along the “Belt and Road” countries. It commits to providing constructive advice in health for the collaboration between China and other countries. The center has already carried out exchanges and cooperation with health departments and research institutions in the United States, UK, Mali, Myanmar and other countries. Professor Therese Hesketh is the expert in Global Health. She was a consultant in International organization such as UNICEF, Britain's Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union, and organizations in countries like Uzbekistan, Morocco and Uganda etc. She is currently a consultant to the Public Health England and a reviewer of the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). She has published more than 150 papers in internationally renowned magazines such as NEJM, Lancet, JAMA, and BMJ. She has hosted several large-scale international scientific research projects, and her research results have been reported by the BBC, CNN, and the British Guardian.

 

The research interests of the new center will include the following areas, with a particular focus on interventions:

-  migration and well-being of adults and children  

-  child health and well-being, including child protection

-  domestic violence

-  anti-microbial resistance

-  health system reforms, with a focus on improving quality of health care

-  aging, especially in relation to elderly care and dementia

 

We are looking forward to expanding our team. So welcome applicants with experience from a range of backgrounds including public health, epidemiology and biostatistics, health economics, psychology and anthropology. We are interested in individuals who can work within the above mentioned topic areas, but also those who can develop their own interests.
